Gran Reserva

00021
Wine is an essential element of many of their holidays and visitors love to discover the stories behind the wines and just how good Catalonia’s wines are getting these days.
As all their holidays are tailor-made they can include a wine tour  wherever guests are planning to go, although the DO’s they work with  mainly are in Catalonia are Penedes, Priorat and Bages.

Winery Tour Catalunya, Spain
Wine tours can be part of a holiday touring Catalonia or a day tour from Barcelona. The Penedes is a 45 minute drive from the city, while the Priorat is 1hr 40mins and is only really a day option for those who already know the regions’ wines and want to go for a particular reason.

Spanish Catalonia Winery

In the Penedes they work with the very well regarded Llopart winery. Llopart’s vineyards have a special position on the hills above San Sadurni with wonderful views of Montserrat. The effect of the extra altitude on the Maccabeu, Xarello, Parellada and Chardonay grapes is said to give Llopart’s cavas their especially well balanced and rounded character.

Visitors to Llopart are given a complete tour of the installations and vineyards. Followed, of course, by a comprehensive tasting of different varieties of their cavas.

Llopart Cava Winery

There is also the option of cycling through the vineyards on electric bikes provided by the winery and having a delicious homemade picnic lunch, full of good, traditional Catalan fayre and served in individual picnic baskets at the outdoor tables dotted around the vineyard. Alternatively guests are taken to a nearby Catalan masia for a more substantial, great local lunch – whatever you want, they will organise it for you.

Spanish Winery Picnic

If you prefer, you can visit a smaller winery, such as Cava Guillera or Albet i Noya, to provide a contrast. Here you will discover the processes on a more human scale and also some of the regions’ award winning reds and whites, which show how the Penedes is evolving and becoming well known for its wines as well as its cavas.

Hot Air Balloon Flights, Barcelona

Beach days, skiing, seeing Catalonia’s human castles or Barcelona from the air, whatevery you want to include in your holiday plans Barcelona Inside & Out will individually craft your holiday or your tour.

Five Charming Hotels in Seville

Seville, or Sevilla in Spanish, is one of my favourite Andalusian cities. It’s huge and one of the ‘famous three’ that most visitors head for when visiting southern Spain – Cordoba, Granada and Seville.

Did you know you can submit an article about Andalucia here?http://bit.ly/24Nn88O
Seville University

I don’t know it as well as Cordoba or Granada and nowhere near as well as my nearest city – Jaen (pronounced ‘hi-en’) which is probably the least known of the eight cities and provinces that make up Andalucia.

When I saw in the local Spanish paper ABC an article on ‘The five most charming hotels in Seville city’  I took note for the next time I go.

Five Charming Hotels in Seville City

Boutique Hotel Casa Poeta

Boutique Hotel Casa Poeta
Boutique Hotel Casa Poeta

Named after the poet Al-Mutamid, Boutique Hotel Casa Poeta, the house where he lived is located in the heart of the old quarter Santa Cruz with its maze-like narrow streets and enormous choice of bars and restaurants all around. The hotel has a gorgeous interior Andalucian patio and individually-decorated rooms.

Hotel Corral del Rey

Hotel Corral del Rey
Hotel Corral del Rey

The second hotel is in the area – Barrio de la Alfalfa. A beautiful ancient building once an VII palace, now completely renovated into this intimate boutique hotel with a minimilistic style and a great merging of modern and antique.

El Rey Moro Hotel Boutique Sevilla

Hotel El Rey Moro, Seville
El Rey Moro Hotel Boutique Sevilla

In the heart of the Jewish quarter with lovely views the Rey Moro translates as Moorish King. Each bedroom has been decorated with  a different theme. One of its main selling points is after a long, and hot day sightseeing you can relax in the jacuzzi with views of the Giralda, the Moorish tower.

Alcoba del Rey de Sevilla

Hotel El Rey Moro, Seville
Hotel Alcoba del Rey

Located in the same house where the Moorish poet Al-Mutamid lived,  Hotel Alcoba del Rey preserves that historical and cultural spirit one thousand years later. With a Moroccan/Arabian feel to make your stay here an unforgettable one.

Palacio Pinello Hotel Boutique

Hotel Palacio Pinello Hotel Boutique

The final one on the list is Palacio Pinello Hotel Boutique in the heart of Santa Cruz quarter. Built on a  XV palace it’s a charming hotel with lovely details transforming and merging ancient and modern with maximum comfort.

Very tough choice, I love them all, perhaps a night in each!

A Castle Stay in the Spanish Countryside

It’s not really a castle but it is called El Castillo. This fabulous new addition to the Simpson Secret collection is located in one of my favourite corners of  rural Andalusia. Just 4km from Gaucin and near the White Villages route and the beautiful town of Ronda.

The Moorish-style house is perfectly modernised to provide a real escape into nature but with pampering. Choose a chef or childcare, massage or guided walk for your secluded ‘castle’ in Spain stay.

El Castillo, luxury villa, Andalucia

The huge living room is delightful and a welcome retreat from the scorching summer sun or cosy with log fire in chillier times. With six bedrooms sleeping up to 14 people it’s an ideal get together and get away spot to enjoy or nature or head to the beach just 30 minutes drive away.

El Castillo, luxury villa, Andalucia

It would be easy to spend all day here roaming the countryside or using the 20m swimming pool which is open in summer and covered in winter. Or what about tinkling on the grand piano. It might be a rural getaway but it doesn’t mean you won’t be connected – there is wifi.

See El Castillo on Simpson Secrets.
